Toyota motor corporation has increased its investment in JOBY Aviation to just under $1 billion dollars ($894 million).
Toyota to invest an additional $500 million in JOBY: https://youtu.be/8cSR0xyn8IY?si=92kxOruquXQlUpq- 3 min.
This is a significant development as JOBY Aviation moves closer to fulfilling its expansion plans and providing EVTOL transportation in the real world. There are other companies such as ARCHER that have similar designs and goals, but in my opinion, JOBY has a significant jump in design and configuration, production and are further along on FAA certification than most all others. Lots of concepts, lots of exhibition models that look pretty. But few other companies have a well-developed number of operational production units in the sky and a full spectrum business model.
JOBY Aviation in my opinion is the leader in this new transportation market category. They are actually inventing the technology, the systems and the business model, and the point A to point B personal transportation market.
10/11/25: Update to the update:
Keeping in mind this is a very well-produced shiny JOBY PR piece, I do not see any other company working at this level of design, technology, vertical integration and production. Other companies may say things, other companies may have exhibition models and are testing working units, but JOBY IMO is setting the standard and the direction of this new industry / market.
Will a private individual be able to purchase and operate one? I would think maybe at some time in the future, but right now the company understands that in order to secure their place in performance and more importantly in safety in this new market they must control who, when and where their flying machines will be used.
